1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a cooling system for an electric motor in an electric vehicle having an electric motor for driving a wheel.
2. Description of the Related Art
An electric vehicle is driven by an electric motor. A cooling system for cooling the electric motor is generally provided in the electric vehicle. In general, the cooling system uses a cooling water to cool a radiator provided at an exterior of the electric vehicle.
The radiator of the electric vehicle is provided in a region where an air flow occurs. As the air flow passes over the radiator, a temperature of the cooling water cooled by the radiator rises. Accordingly, it is important to cool the cooling water effectively. As a result, in the cooling system, a water jacket is provided on an outer side of the radiator. In addition, another water jacket is provided on the cooling water on an inner side of the radiator.
In the conventional cooling system, as shown in FIG. 8, the cooling water flowing through the water jackets is cooled by two radiators 102, 103 and then distributed to cooling components of an engine. The cooling water is then returned to the water jacket on the inner side of the radiator 103. A first water jacket 107 in the radiator 103 cools the cooling water and then the cooling water is returned to the second water jacket 108 on the outer side of the radiator 103. The cooling water is then cooled by the radiator 102. The cooling water is returned to the water jacket 107.
As described above, the cooling water is cooled by the two radiators 102, 103. Therefore, it is necessary to provide the two radiators 102, 103 at different positions from each other. As a result, it is necessary to enlarge an opening of the radiator 103. Thus, it is difficult to design a layout of the cooling components of the engine. In addition, a cooling efficiency is deteriorated due to the arrangement of the radiators.
